After spending my whole life as a JW with a die hard husband, I totally think the ones I know would drink it without question.

Would Witnesses REALLY drink the "Kool-aid" if the faithful slave told them to? Yes or no?
by Witness 007 ina "spiritual leader" tells his followers the must put on rebok running shoes and "drink the cool-aid" to join a ufo in the tail of a comet and "go to a better world" so, afew dozen young people do just that to get "beamed up" to the mothership.
heavens gate cult 1990's.. my mother says "she is faithful to the organisation till her death" which makes me wonder if they ordered a mass suicide like the reverend jim jones did to escape a "great tribulation"....how many witnesses would really drink the cool-aid?...
without a gun pointed at their head of course!.

Did you ever pass up an opportunity to leave the truth?
by truthseeker inyears ago when everything was going pear shaped for me in my personal life and in the congregation, i saw my opportunity to leave.
i had no friends, the elders didn't like me and i was one step away from resigning.
i had nothing to lose.. this was back in '97 before i got the internet.. one of my regrets is that i didn't leave when i had the chance.

The told me that the organization I was in was formed by people that were of other religions, and they smoked and drank and had power trips, and the set dates that came and went and were false prophets. They said that 1975, when I was just a toddler probably (they were right) that they misled many to give up their wealth, their hopes, their homes, their futures, and it was wicked and horrible. That I serve men, not God, and that I should look it up myself, that the proof is all right in our own books and history, not with apostates.
I had the same thing happen to me when I was in my late teens. It was an older man who rode the bus with me to work. I would always bring my WT and Awakes with me and do the whole JW thing of being this stupid Witnesses. While this man like me. He truly cared about me now looking back. He tried and tried to reason with me until I got totally rude to him. If only I would have listened to him. I am so mad at myself over it. I was such a self righteous snot back then. Why? I had no friends in the "truth" the elders treated me like dirt. But my parents were so abusive to me and I had no where to turn. I had no one to help me. I fell like I have wasted my life.
This religion really sucks.

How dangers is field service really, has anyone ever heard of someone being hurt or killed while doing some form of witnessing
by life is to short inok my other thread was not totally what i was after.
after thinking it through i was wondering if any of you have ever heard of someone being hurt by a householder in field service.. .
like i mentioned in my latest thread about the sister who was murdered and then her death was blamed on her.. i know in the hall i grew up in there were many sex offenders living in the area.

Thank you anewme
You have it right when you say that those who trusted in Jehovah have had the hardest fall. I was stupid enough to keep trying if only I could turn back the hands of time.

Yes but I just could not see that it was not the "truth" back then. How I regret that today.

New CO talk: Be loyal to Org. even if you get weird instructions or can prove them wrong doctrinally!
by sir82 intheme was something about "loyalty to jehovah's visible organization".. i have neither the time nor inclination to summarize the whole thing, but a few points stood out:.
even if it causes you personal hardship.
example: joshua & caleb returned from spy trip to promised land with good report, but were "outvoted" by the other 10 spies.

So was Jeremiah obedient when told to quit his "preaching" by the religious leaders of his day?
So was Jesus obedient to the religious leaders of his day when they were wrong...so he stopped healing on the Sabbath?
Where does "we must obey God as ruler rather than men" fit into obeying the WTS/FDS/GB when it is wrong?
Very great points Blondi
This truly is just very scary and sick. Why cannot most people see it for what it is. I read the first post to my die hard JW husband and he just said so it is still the "truth"
Sometimes I feel like I am in a crazy house with this religon.

The child abuse issue did it for me. I saw Dateline in 2002 but my husband convinced me that it was all from Satan.
Then we had a child rapist move into our hall and the whole deck of card fell down. Once I saw for my own eyes that Dateline was totally right, that pedophiles do go door to door and are used in the hall as much as the elders can use them. That I got into trouble for not listening to a talk by the child rapist because it hurt his feelings, on and on. I found this sight and the rest is history.
I think I am still in shock, and am just realizing that even those who have left can be just as controlling as they were when they were in.
I am starting to think the best revenge is to just live a good life and be gone with the GB.

Training us better to talk to people at the doors.
by life is to short inok so many of you did not mind sitting and wasting time in a car while out in service because it beat banging on doors and trying to convince someone to join a religion that at least i could not fully explain even to myself much less someone else.
i agree sitting in a car beat banging on doors hands down.
but was it not crazy going door to door.

Thanks CHG
I was starting to think this was a stupid thread and that these creepy things only happened to me. There just are so many mentally ill JW's. We moved to the hall that I am fading from seven years ago. There was this mentally ill brother there who the elders used to help put the magazines away when they came and such. This brother has a key to the hall and I knew he was mentally ill but I really tied to over look it. Of course none of the elders would work with him in service. But the elders used him when they could to do things the elders did not want to waste their time doing.
Well I helped him to get a job. I put myself on the line to do this but I am all for everyone having a chance to make it in life and he really wanted a job. I just heard two days ago how he took advantage of everyone at the place we worked at. Begging them for money, etc. He never asked me for money but my husband is an elder so maybe that is why. He hit one guy up for $1,500.00. He would never have paid him back and this guy could not afford to loose that kind of money. Then I heard all the other stories about him. I just felt sick and so stupid. He was always talking about being a JW to them all the time on and on. I just wanted to crawl under a rock.
I just kept telling everyone I work with how sorry I am for putting them through all of it. It was all my fault as I truly got him the job. It is just that none of us especially the elders have any training in how to deal with mentally ill.
The more I know the more I hate this religion.

Did you get token invites to witness gatherings?
by truthseeker ini was pretty much a loner the whole time i was in my old congregation, and it wasn't for lack of young people - there were plenty of "young ones", but because of various situations that went unchecked, rumors and just plain nastiness, i did not have any friends.. some of you might relate to this.
you feel like you don't fit in either camp - the world and the congregation - a rock in a hard place.. on the rare occasion i did get a token invite to a jw gathering, it was usually a video evening, as we called them in the uk.
since i had no social life to speak of, i would attend these rare and "exciting" events but it was always a let down.. you see, unless you have shared history with these folks, it's pretty much a non event.

Yes totally.
I remember once where I was visiting a sister in the hospital and I had just came back from Bethel. No one spoke to me when I walked in the room. There was one elder in the room and at least three MS. It was like I was not even there. Then this really loud and totally worldly witnesses comes in. She had not been to the meetings in years and everyone just gushes over her. How are you doing on and on. I just stood in the back of the room feeling so horrible and wondering what was wrong with me. No one even said hi to me expect the sick sister and it was like hi what are you doing here.
